Who is this Jesus? Beaten and broken beyond recognition. Who is He?
“Bearing shame and scoffing rude,” the song says, “in my place condemned He stood.” The shame that brought him ridicule was my shame. He was “made sin, He who knew no sin, so that I could be made righteous with His rightness; He who was sinless.”
What is there about me that made Him shameful? How am I ridiculous? What, in me, would make another man spit on me? How have I so broken the trust of another that they want to brand me an impostor; a fake? Why would my Friends abandon me? How is it that this Man on the Cross is the very person I don’t see in the mirror … the person I really am?
Oh Jesus! You prayed, “Father forgive them! They don’t know what they’re doing!” You were praying for me then … I need that forgiveness! “Create in me a clean heart, Oh God! Restore a right spirit in me!” The man I see in the mirror needs to be forgiven and made over!
THANK YOU! that it is precisely that “makeover” for which You gave your life! I will forever love you!
